On the first day, led by the aggressive efforts of young Yashasvi Jaiswal, India scored 119 runs and lost only one wicket in the form of skipper Rohit Sharma. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill looks comfortable at the crease, batting at 14 and looking to capitalize on his good start.

Although Rohit and Jaiswal got India off to a good start, the Indian captain later lost his wicket to Jack Leach for 24. It was the fifth time Leach had beaten the Indian veteran in a Test match.

For India, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets each, while Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah picked up two wickets each.

Ben Stokes stood alone in the second session as he battled the Indian spin attack with a complete Test match batting showing class, patience and aggression when needed. Stokes scored 50 off 69 balls.

Ahead of the series, the Indian team received a shock when veteran batsman Virat Kohli pulled out of the first two Tests citing personal reasons. BCCI is in the opening round of Madhya Pradesh and Kohliand#039; RCB teammate Rajat Patidar claimed the GOAT spot in India’s lineup in the first two matches.
